What does the M4 do?

Guided Exercise Program: Use your Suunto M4 as your very own personal trainer. To begin, set your personal exercise target for fitness improvement, weight management, or free training. Once your target is set and your fitness level is determined, the M4 will provide you with a daily workout schedule, real-time guidance, and workout achievement summaries to help you achieve your goals.

Fitness Test: For the most accurate guidance during exercise, use the M4 fitness test to determine your fitness level. The fitness test usually takes 10-30 minutes, depending on your walking speed, and can be used to not only determine your fitness level, but to monitor your progress as well.

Heart Rate Monitor: The M4 comes with the Suunto Dual Comfort Heart Rate Belt so you can monitor your HR while you exercise. To ensure the most accurate reading of your HR, strap the HR belt to center of your chest and make sure the red arrow is pointing up. The Dual Comfort Belt is compatible with most cardio gym equipment and provides interference-free HR monitoring eliminating disturbances from power lines, and magnetic and electronic devices.

Exercise Summary: After each time you exercise, you can view a summary of the percentage completed from the guided exercise; duration of the exercise; amount of calories burned; average HR; and peak HR. If you choose to save the information, you can later review your History & Trend, which is an accumulation of all the saved information over the last 4 weeks, along with other information.

Transfer Data to Movescount.com: With the addition of the Suunto Movestick you can upload your training data to Movescount.com. Movescount.com is a free online sports community designed to manage your "moves" or training logs, track your progress, and connect you with other fitness enthusiasts around the world.

What is the difference between the M-Series and t-Series?

The Suunto M-Series is more geared toward men and women who take part in recreational fitness, whereas the t-Series is designed for performance athletes. The M-Series is very simple in style and in its features with only with only 3 buttons and minimal functions. If you're simply looking to get active and improve your fitness level, the M-Series is the perfect tool to help you reach your goals. For experienced athletes looking to maximize their performance, the Suunto t-Series will provide optimum results.

Who is the Suunto M4 best for?

The Suunto M4 is perfect for someone looking for guidance with their training or a weight management tool. With the Dual Comfort Heart Rate Belt the M4 is great for training indoors and outdoors. However, it is not compatible with the Suunto PODs, which are used to track speed and distance, so the M4 is designed specifically for those interested in monitoring heart rate and caloric burn.

Comparison: The Suunto M5 is the same heart rate monitor as the M4, but with a few added features, such as a recovery time recommendation after you exercise. The M5 is also compatible with the Suunto Foot PODBike POD and GPS POD, making it able to track speed and distance, and can download any program from Movescount.com with the addition of the Suunto Movestick.

Please Note: The M5 is NOT compatible with the Suunto Cadence POD.

About Suunto
Suunto was founded in 1936 by outdoors man and a keen orienteering enthusiast, Tuomas Vohlonen, who had long been bothered by a problem: the inaccuracy of traditional dry compasses and their lack of steady needle operation. Being an engineer with an inventive turn of mind, he discovered and patented the production method for a much steadier needle, better readings, and a new level of accuracy.

By 1950 the company was exporting compasses to over 50 countries around the world, including Canada and the United States. In 1952, Helsinki was hosting the Olympic Games, and the torches carried to light the Olympic flame were Suunto products. The next step was improving the stability and accuracy of marine compasses. The first marine compass, the Suunto K-12, was launched onto the market in 1953. In 1957, Suunto started manufacturing hypsometers, which measure the height of trees.

In the 1960s, the compass range grew further and Suunto introduced its first diving compass--initiated by the divers themselves. A British sports diver attached a Suunto compass to his wrist and found that the device also worked underwater. Thanks to his feedback and initiatives, the new business category was found. Suunto's exports and business grew steadily and Suunto then focused on combining its strength in precision mechanics with new skills in electronics. Accuracy, reliability, and ruggedness have been Suunto's key values from the very beginning of the company history.

Today, Suunto is a leading designer and manufacturer of sports instruments for training, diving, mountaineering, hiking, skiing, sailing, and golf. True to its roots, Suunto is today the world's biggest compass manufacturer. Prized for their design, accuracy and dependability, Suunto sports instruments combine the aesthetics and functionality of watches with sport-specific computers that help athletes at all levels analyze and improve performance. Headquartered in Vantaa, Finland, Suunto employs more than 500 people worldwide and distributes its products to nearly 60 countries. The company is a subsidiary of Helsinki-based Amer Sports Corporation with the sister brands Wilson, Salomon, Atomic, Precor, and Mavic.
