Product Info Suunto Yachtsman features an accurate calendar watch with a countdown timer and dual time display, Suunto´s famous digital compass, a barometer, and a sailing timer designed to meet the timing requirements before and during a tough race. Your trusty mate in the open seasIn spite of the abundance of features, Suunto Yachtsman is extremely user-friendly and has easy-to-use logic, a large display with big numerals and an electro-luminescent backlight for dimly lit conditions. Suunto Yachtsman combines exclusive looks with the rock solid construction. It is shockproof and waterproof to 30 m (100 ft). The non-allergenic aluminum casing and the durable mineral crystal glass combined with a weatherproof leather band make it the ultimate tool for discerning boaters. Deeper Understanding No matter where you are sailing, Suunto Yachtsman keeps you on time. The calendar watch is pre-programmed to the year 2089, has 3 daily alarms, a regular stopwatch, sailing timer and a dual time function.
The sailing timer allows you to easily set the correct sequence and synchronize the timer with the race committee with the push of a button. Large numerals and audible warning signals let you concentrate more on maneuvering your boat in the swarming of the start while Suunto Yachtsman keeps you informed on up-coming critical moments.
The race timer range of the stopwatch is 120 hours. You can store fifty split times in the memory for later analysis. The sailing timer has been developed together with some of the top sailors in the world, with experience from the Whitbread Around the World ocean race to the dinghy and keel boat World Championships.
The electronic compass displays the bearing and the cardinal or half-cardinal point and a North-South arrow, and features a bearing tracking function that displays the locked bearing, the actual bearing and the difference between the two. Suunto Yachtsman also allows for declination adjustment. The rotating bezel with a ratchet at every five degrees combined with the compass is especially useful when defining the start line bias or memorizing the wind direction before the start of a race.
Suunto Yachtsman displays the current barometric pressure and temperature as well as the pressure-related data for the past four days. It also shows you the present sea level pressure, which makes it easier to read and understand the barometric pressure.
Suunto Yachtsman is not only an essential navigational tool for all sailing enthusiasts but it is also a reliable timekeeper and an important racing aid.
Whether cruising around your home harbor or sailing in the raging oceans, safety comes first. Suunto Yachtsman is packed with solutions enabling safe and responsible decisions at sea. With the accurate electronic compass you can keep the right course even in the most demanding weather conditions and with the help of the barometric functions you can stay one step ahead of the storm.
The timekeeping functions help serious racers optimize their start and allow them to enjoy the thrill and excitement of the race. With Suunto Yachtsman you can concentrate on what you know and love the best, the race itself. Product Additional Info About SuuntoSuunto was founded in 1936 by outdoors man and a keen orienteering enthusiast, Tuomas Vohlonen, who had long been bothered by a problem: the inaccuracy of traditional dry compasses and their lack of steady needle operation. Being an engineer with an inventive turn of mind, he discovered and patented the production method for a much steadier needle, better readings, and a new level of accuracy. By 1950 the company was exporting compasses to over 50 countries around the world, including Canada and the United States. In 1952, Helsinki was hosting the Olympic Games, and the torches carried to light the Olympic flame were Suunto products. The next step was improving the stability and accuracy of marine compasses. The first marine compass, the Suunto K-12, was launched onto the market in 1953. In 1957, Suunto started manufacturing hypsometers, which measure the height of trees. In the 1960s, the compass range grew further and Suunto introduced its first diving compass--initiated by the divers themselves. A British sports diver attached a Suunto compass to his wrist and found that the device also worked underwater. Thanks to his feedback and initiatives, the new business category was found. Suunto's exports and business grew steadily and Suunto then focused on combining its strength in precision mechanics with new skills in electronics. Accuracy, reliability, and ruggedness have been Suunto's key values from the very beginning of the company history. Today, Suunto is a leading designer and manufacturer of sports instruments for training, diving, mountaineering, hiking, skiing, sailing, and golf. True to its roots, Suunto is today the world's biggest compass manufacturer. Prized for their design, accuracy and dependability, Suunto sports instruments combine the aesthetics and functionality of watches with sport-specific computers that help athletes at all levels analyze and improve performance. Headquartered in Vantaa, Finland, Suunto employs more than 500 people worldwide and distributes its products to nearly 60 countries. The company is a subsidiary of Helsinki-based Amer Sports Corporation with the sister brands Wilson, Salomon, Atomic, Precor, and Mavic.
