Video Poker Guide

Video Poker is a popular online casino game which derives from classic five card draw poker. When you play video poker online today you can generally now find more than 50 different varieties, but some online casinos will have more versions available than others. You can play video poker online either in the real money mode or in the free play demo mode and you can play from multiple devices. In other words, you can play from your Windows PC or laptop, from your Mac operating system of from your smartphone or tablet device.

Some of the most well-known video poker games that you can find today include Aces & Faces, Aces & Eights, All American, Jacks or Better, Tens or Better, Pick’em Poker, All American and Joker Poker. Other popular varieties include Deuces & Joker, Double Double Bonus Poker, Mega Jacks and Louisiana Double. The great thing about video poker is that you can play with just one hand at time, known as Single Hand Video Poker or you can play with up to as many as 100 hands at a time, known as Multihand Video Poker. The lowest cost per game generally starts from as little as 1.00 coin per round.

It does help to have some kind of poker knowledge before you play this game, but it isn’t necessary because the pays should always be on display for you. The lowest winning hand when playing online video poker is usually NOT a high card. The lowest possible winning hand is a pair (usually tens or higher). The next best winning hand is when you have two pair (for example 2, 2, and 8, 8, plus any other card). You then have three of a kind (e.g. Jack, Jack, Jack, plus any other two cards). The next best win is called a straight (can be any five cards in a row, of any suit, for example, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9).

You then have a flush which must be any five cards, but all from the same suit (for example 2, 7, 9, Jack and Queen of hearts). For even bigger wins you will need a full house which is a hand that is comprised of three matching cards and a pair (for example 7, 7, 7, king, king). The next best winning hand is four of a kind (could be 10, 10, 10, 10, plus any other card). The second best hand is a straight flush and this has to be five consecutive cards of the same suit (for example 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 of spades) and the best possible hand in video poker is the Royal Flush which contains a 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace of the same suit.

When you have paid for a hand, you will be dealt five cards and then based on the strength of those first five cards will determine your next move. For example, you can hold certain cards in place and then discard the rubbish cards. The ones that you discard will then be re-dealt and this will hopefully bring in a better winning hand and it will also end the round. If you win, you will be paid accordingly. If not, you can begin a new game.
